Part of ColossalCON
Animie, CosPlay and Gaming Conversion
Sandusky, OH

Event Summery,

After the success of last year HORD at Con on the Cob ORC was invited to of the premier anime conventions, ColossalCon, held at the massive Kalahari Resort and Water Park in Sandusky Ohio.

For this event ORC decided it was time to retire the old 4’ x 8’ Gandola arena and build a new and larger arena better suited for power of today’s beetle weight robots and offer better viewing.  Two months of hard work resulted in our new 8’ x 8’ octagonal arena.

Twenty one robot including three flea weights, eleven ants weights and seven beetle weights came to fight for glory and honor making this one of our best bot counts.   ColssalCon provided ORC with a 60’ x 60’ room off the main hallway with plenty of tables and chairs.  Setup up and check in went very quick and fights started at about 10:30.   Hundreds of ColssalCon attendees pack the spectator section of room and cheered as bots clashed.  Action started with ant weights fighting in a double elimination tournament.  Highlights included an amazing match between two drum spinners Techinator 2 and Ripetide’s Minion that included robots bouncing off walls and ceiling.  The biggest surprise of the day was seeing perennially winners Low Blow and Vile Ant both drop to the loser’s bracket mid tournament.  Low Blow fought his way back through the loser’s bracket to defeat 99 in the finials.

Meanwhile in Beetle action Wedge of Allegiance dominate the class pushing straight through the winner’s bracket to the finials.  Revenge of Dr Super Brain put on a good show spanking the competition, figuratively and literally, but the Doctor could not get his flipper under Wedge of Allegiance and lost to him twice and settled for second place.

Latter in the day the three flea weights fought a round robin tournament.  Demise won both of his matches while Bar Buster went one and one leaving Magic Blue smoke smoldering in third.

The day was capped off with two rumbles.  First five ants faced off in a wild melee ending with three robots semi mobile.  Death by 1001 Cuts won the match by audience applause.  The four beetles and a guts ant, Death by 1001 Cuts, fought for the beetle rumble championship. Two bots fell to the pit leaving the audience to decide between Wedge of Allegiance, Revenge of Dr Super Brain, and Death by 1001 Cuts.  The audience choose the latter by a narrow margin.

ORC would like to thank all of our volunteers, builders, and sponsors for help putting on this great event.  We would also like to give special thanks to the ColossalCon staff for all of their support
